Snow on Haleakala, a Big Swell …

… Moto, Stand Up, Stitches, Hiking, and of course, Cycling on this Incredible Island…

We have been really busy here the past month doing lots of daily cycling tours. More people are finding out how great the cycling is here on Maui and they are escaping the cold climates to come ride in the sun. The temperatures have been averaging around 80 degrees most days. We’ve had a bit of rain as well but there is always somewhere dry to ride on the island. The island is really green everywhere because of the rains. We also had snow on top of Haleakala last week.

It only lasted about a day, but it’s crazy that you can be surfing in the ocean and looking up at a snow capped summit above you. I’ve been able to rack up the miles lately when I am not hurting myself doing the stand-up surf. I had an accident a few days before Christmas while surfing and had to have about twenty stitches in my face. All healed up and back in the surf again. Speaking of surf we have had a great winter for North shore waves. Jaws was breaking this week and there were about twenty five tow surf teams out in the water (photo compliments of LairdHamlton.com)

I’ve also been doing a bit of riding my off road motorcycle. I did a New Year’s day moto ride with over thirty other other guys on the back side of Haleakala. (two photos attached) My boys Jacques, Kainoa and myself have been getting out and riding a few times a month lately. It’s a fun change of pace from pedaling.
