Ready for Winter Here on Maui?

Me and Andrew Talansky at Hookipa.

I guess winter is upon the mainland US and Canada now. That’s what I’m hearing. Temperatures are getting colder. Time to get your Maui cycling trip planned.

Perfect Bike Rides & Big Waves

Here in Maui the average daily temps are in the mid 80’s all winter. Perfect for cycling! Big waves and Humpback whales are starting to show up. A few current top professional cyclists have also made there way to Maui. Ryder Hesjedal and Ian Walsh (Pro Surfer) join me for a ride up Haleakala.

2014 Summer Biking Roundup Maui

2014 Cycle to the Sun

The summer has been really busy here in Maui. The “Cycle to the Sun” race went really well. The top four riders were from Hawaii, and there times were all under three hours. The overall winner was Max Lafortune from the Big Island in a time of 2:47:43, and Sheila Croft from Seattle won the women’s race with a time of 3:22:18.

Maxfield LAFORTUNE (left) of Kamuela, HI was the male winner with a time of 2:47:43.053. Sheila CROFT (right) of Seattle, WA was the female winner with a time of 3:22:18.549.

It was the best weather conditions I have ever experienced at the summit. Sunny, no wind, and in the 70’s all day. The after party also went well. Maui Brewing Company had the beer flowing and Flatbread was cooking pizzas on the grill till everyone got there fill. Next year’s race will be Saturday, June 27th, 2015.

Las Vegas Interbike Trade Show

I recently got back from the Interbike trade show in Las Vegas. It’s one of the largest bicycle industry trade shows in the world. Wanted to share some of what I saw. There is some really cool new bikes and gear for 2015. The company KTM that is known for making motorcycles is now building and selling road and mountain bikes. Felt Bicycles has a pedal assist electric mountain bike. I test rode this bike in the dirt at the Outdoor Demo. I had a smile on my face the whole time I was riding. I hope to have one at the shop a few months for customers to test ride.
